Joey is thrilled to be completing an internship at Imagine Counselling. He is a full-time elementary school teacher currently completing his final year in a Masters of Education in Counselling. Prior to his arrival to Imagine Counselling, Joey interned in school settings as an elementary school counsellor working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges.

As a new immigrant growing up in Canada, Joey recognizes the importance that diversity can bring to one’s identity. He approaches each client with a genuine enthusiasm to hear their story on who they are and who they wish to be. He believes understanding one’s community is key to discovering how we are shaped and seeks to help clients who are having difficulties with anxiety, stress and sense of self.

With 10 years of experience in the school system, Joey has a profound respect for the power of connection. From his extensive background in working with children with exceptionalities, Joey believes in meeting people where they are at. He advocates that people do the best they can with what they have and seeks to support people who are struggling to find their voice, with empathy and respect. His aim as a counsellor, is to walk alongside individuals amidst their challenges through a person-centered and collaborative approach while developing his skills under the guidance of Cathy.

Joey is accepting new clients in person. He provides counselling services in English with consultations in Mandarin and Taiwanese.

Jillian only works with children and youth

Jillian (she/her) is excited and honoured to be working at Imagine Counselling. She is a full-time high school Drama and English teacher who is currently getting certified in Synergetic Play Therapy. Synergetic Play Therapy is a research-informed model of play therapy combining the therapeutic powers of play with nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity.

Jillian was drawn to counselling when she found more and more of her students were disclosing their stories and she wanted to learn how to better support them. As a teacher, and a student herself, Jillian understands the social and emotional pressures that her students experience and wants to ensure that those she works with feel a sense of belonging in each new environment they encounter.

Jillian has worked with children and youth for over ten years and is passionate about sharing her interests through outdoor education in water sports, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. She has been described as welcoming and compassionate with a great sense of humour.

Jillian believes that you are the expert of your own experience, and she meets her clients where they are. Her person-centred and non-judgmental approach helps her clients feel validated in their experiences. She brings her passion and experience in theatre to her practice through storytelling as she walks alongside her clients in their journey.

Jillian is available on Monday evenings but is currently full. She provides counselling services in English.

Unfortunately, Cathy is unable to take new clients at this time.

Using EMDR, Art, Play, and talk therapy, I support my clients, of all ages, to break through the obstacles that may be holding them back in their lives.

I have attended disaster sites and critical incident events where I provided support to First Responders and community citizens.

I am passionate about helping people, and due to my own personal hardships throughout my life, I have a non-judgmental approach when listening to my client’s life journey.

My client’s come to me from many directions with very different goals. Many have trauma in their history and many do not but have current time struggles that are keeping them stuck in difficult emotions.

My counselling therapy work focuses on the mental health of children, teens, women, and Indigenous peoples. I have been told by others that I am a safe person where people feel comfortable to freely express their inner self and inner secrets in a non-judgmental environment.

I look forward to meeting you so we can walk your journey together. Until next time, Cathy
